All logs were harvested from "Ted Turners Vermijo Park Ranch. They were dried for 18 months at Doctor Saw Mill in Trinidad, Co 81082. Once delivered to the building site all were hand hewn and cut for Vigas, Posts and Beams. The etched window above the pation doors is an original window from the historic Columbian Hotel circa 1890. Approximately 375 straw bales insulate the walls and blown insulation furnishes ceiling warmth. The house is both cool in the summer and warm in the winter, with an approximate R-60 insulation factor. Two Kiva fireplaces provide heat and ambience. Both are built with adobe blocks that were made by hand on the banks of the Rio Grande River in Corrales, New Mexico. Additional warmth is provided by in floor radiant heat through the house and the 1000 sq. ft. garage. The front door was made on site and weighs approx 300 lbs. It is Brazialian Cherry Wood which is both strong and durable. Kitchen range is a commercial stove with two ovens. There are several old adobe rock ruins on the property. When entering the home you are greeted to Santa Fe style adobe bricks weighing 16 lbs each. The same bricks are used for the kiva fireplaces, one in the master bedroom and one in the living room. Entering the front door there are two Southwest Quadrafoil Fused glass windows. The concrete frames are from Arizona and glass work was done by Trinidad artist, Arelia Webster. The property is approx 141 acres with 3 seasonal ponds and a great working well. Wildlife is abundant with Elk, Deer, Wild Turkeys, Bear, Mountain lion and an occasional antelope.
